Escape Your Prison
I’m untangling the illusions that hold me back
The elaborate and dramatic stories totally bereft of fact
For years I have quietly befriended my jailor,
But as he jangles the keys and mocks me for my failures,
I lift myself up off the floor and shout
“I am not that man you convicted, I am headed out”
And as I emerge blinking, blinded, but soaking up the sun,
I hear a thousand prisoners behind me yell, “he’s not the only one”
